On 1 August, Aman opens doors to Amanvari, its first property anywhere in the Americas, and the stakes for luxury travel in Mexico just shifted. Set within the Costa Palmas community on the East Cape of Baja California Sur, the resort places just 18 casitas across three tiers: Beachfront, Estuary and Horizon, each designed to disappear into the landscape rather than dominate it.
The location is the draw. The East Cape is where the Sierra de la Laguna mountains, the arid coastal desert and the Sea of Cortez meet, a convergence that gives Amanvari its name, a portmanteau of Aman and vari, the Latin root for diversity. The terrain is raw, undeveloped and deliberately so. This is not Cabo San Lucas. The nearest high-rise is hours away, and Aman clearly intends to keep it that way.
Each casita category responds to its setting. Beachfront casitas sit directly on the sand, with floor-to-ceiling glass that frames the ocean and slides away to merge interior and exterior. Estuary casitas perch above the mangrove-lined waterway that threads the property, offering a quieter, more contemplative outlook. Horizon casitas occupy the highest ground, with panoramic views across the desert floor to the mountains and sea beyond.
Interiors follow Aman's established language: natural materials, restrained palette, generous negative space. Wood, stone and woven textiles reference the region without resorting to pastiche. Bathrooms open to private gardens or terraces. The furniture is low, the lighting warm, the overall effect one of calm permanence rather than transient hotel luxury.
Beyond the rooms, Amanvari offers the brand's signature wellness programming, including a spa built around the principles of water, movement and stillness. A Casa Grande lodge serves as the social heart of the property, housing the main restaurant and bar. The culinary direction draws from Baja's emerging fine-dining identity: fresh seafood from the Sea of Cortez, produce from the region's farms, and a wine list that leans into Mexican viticulture from Valle de Guadalupe.
The opening is part of a broader surge of luxury investment along the East Cape. St Regis Los Cabos at Quivira and Grand Hyatt Los Cabos are both expected before the end of 2026, while Park Hyatt Cabo del Sol has already welcomed guests. But it is Amanvari that sets the tone. Aman's arrival signals that the East Cape is no longer an emerging destination. It has arrived.
A limited collection of branded Aman Residences is also available within the Costa Palmas community, offering full ownership with access to all resort amenities. Given the rate at which Aman residences sell out at other properties, early interest is expected to be considerable.
Reservations are open now. Rates have not been publicly disclosed, but given Aman's global pricing and the property's intimate scale, expect the sort of figures that filter out all but the most committed travellers. For those who make the journey, the reward is a corner of Baja that still feels like a secret.
