Audemars Piguet has kicked off November with a chime rather than a whisper, unveiling five new references that span the Royal Oak and Code 11.59 collections. Three are Minute Repeater Supersonnerie watches that build on nearly a decade of acoustic research, while two 38mm Code 11.59 models introduce natural stone dials in gold obsidian and black onyx. Together, they represent a confident statement from the Le Brassus manufacture at a time when high complications and artisanal materials are commanding renewed attention from collectors.

The Sound of Innovation

The Supersonnerie story began in 2016 with the Royal Oak Concept RD#1, the result of eight years of research involving AP watchmakers, musicians and engineers from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne. The challenge was straightforward but fiendishly complex: traditional minute repeaters lose acoustic energy as sound travels through the movement and case, dampening the chime. AP's solution was a soundboard positioned between the movement and caseback, on which specially developed gongs are mounted. The board resonates, amplifying and projecting the sound outward, while a bespoke regulator minimises mechanical noise so nothing interferes with the chiming sequence.

All three new Supersonnerie models are powered by the manually wound calibre 2953, a 30mm movement just 6mm thick comprising 362 components. It runs at 21,600 vibrations per hour and delivers a 72-hour power reserve, with hours, minutes and small seconds displayed alongside the minute repeater function activated via a slider on the case left.

Royal Oak in Titanium and Pink Gold

The first Royal Oak Minute Repeater Supersonnerie arrives in a 42mm titanium case with a smoked green sunburst dial that darkens toward the periphery. A tone-on-tone small seconds counter sits at 6 o'clock, with rhodium-toned pink gold hour markers and white gold hands both filled with luminescent material. The integrated titanium bracelet maintains the collection's signature play of brushed and polished surfaces. Priced at CHF 351,100, it is a study in restrained, technical luxury.

The second Royal Oak takes a warmer path. For the first time in the Supersonnerie line, AP has crafted the 42mm case in 18-carat pink gold, paired with a brown Grande Tapisserie dial and matching small seconds subdial. Pink gold hands and luminous hour markers complete the composition, with an integrated pink gold bracelet closed by an AP folding clasp. At CHF 391,400, it is the most expensive of the three chiming watches, but the material transformation gives it a distinctly different character on the wrist.

Code 11.59 Goes Sapphire

The third Supersonnerie revisits the Code 11.59 architecture first presented in 2023. Its 41mm white gold case features a fully polished middle, contrasting with the Royal Oak's brushed finishes. The standout feature is a smoked sapphire dial that partially reveals the calibre 2953 beneath, with a minutes track and small seconds rim created using galvanic growth for added texture against the open background. White gold baton hands and hour markers sit against the darkened surface, deliberately without lume. The watch is worn on a grey alligator strap with a white gold folding clasp, priced at CHF 325,000.

Stone Dials Return

Beyond the chiming trio, AP has also introduced two 38mm Code 11.59 Selfwinding watches with natural stone dials. The first pairs a yellow gold case with a gold obsidian dial at $57,500, while the second combines a pink gold case with a black onyx dial set with diamond hour markers at $68,500. Both are powered by the Calibre 5909 with a 60-hour power reserve. AP has been experimenting with mineral dials since the 1970s alongside Rolex and Piaget, but these new references reflect how strongly contemporary collectors have responded to the trend.

From acoustic engineering to geological craftsmanship, the November collection reinforces Audemars Piguet's position at the intersection of tradition and experimentation. The Supersonnerie remains one of haute horlogerie's most compelling technical achievements, and these new references ensure it will continue to resonate well into the new year.
