For 35 years, the Hermes Cape Cod has lived comfortably in the jewellery side of watchmaking. Designed by Henri d'Origny in 1991, its signature square-within-a-rectangle shape, drawn from anchor-chain links, has always been elegant, polished, slightly feminine, a natural companion to double-tour leather straps. The 2026 Titanium edition changes the conversation entirely.
Gone are the polished surfaces and rounded edges. In their place, Hermes has introduced a flatter profile with satin-brushed top surfaces and bead-blasted flanks that give the Cape Cod a surprisingly brutalist character. The 33mm-wide titanium case feels lighter on the wrist than any Cape Cod before it, and the sharper lines lend it a masculine confidence that previous iterations only hinted at. An orange central seconds hand cuts through the Charmilles-textured dial, while vertically brushed black outer rings house rhodium-plated Arabic numerals filled with Super-LumiNova. Even the counterweight of the seconds hand mirrors the chain-link motif.
Underneath, the Vaucher-manufactured H1912 caliber beats at 4Hz with a 45-hour power reserve, visible through a sapphire display caseback. At 10.36mm thick, the titanium case sits flat enough to slide under a cuff, and with 100 metres of water resistance, there is no need to remove it for a swim. The date window at 6 o'clock uses a black wheel that echoes the hour markers rather than fighting them.
Where this version truly diverges from its predecessors is on the strap. Hermes offers four quick-release rubber options: black, Bleu Abysse, orange and Jaune de Naples. The orange is the standout, pairing naturally with the seconds hand and giving the whole package an unapologetically summery disposition. But the Jaune de Naples is the sleeper pick, a warm yellow that works against tanned skin in a way few watchmakers dare to attempt.
At 6,150 euros (7,900 USD, 6,340 GBP), the Cape Cod Titanium occupies interesting territory. It undercuts many luxury sports watches while offering a design language that stands apart from the integrated-bracelet orthodoxy. This is not a Royal Oak clone or a Nautilus also-ran. It is something genuinely different from one of the few maisons that can credibly claim originality across its entire product range, from saddlery to haute horlogerie.
