Formula 1 and fine whiskey have shared a long and lucrative relationship, but few collaborations have pushed the boundaries of packaging engineering quite like the Jack Daniel's Halo MK1. Created as the most premium and limited release in Jack Daniel's history, the Halo MK1 takes its name and design DNA directly from the protective halo structure that sits above the cockpit of every modern F1 car.
The bottle itself is a piece of engineering. Housed within bespoke packaging that incorporates alloy metal, micro-suede and carbon fibre print, the same materials found in a McLaren race car, every detail references the partnership between the Tennessee distillery and the Woking-based team. Hand-finished cork and custom medallions complete a vessel that sits closer to motorsport memorabilia than traditional spirits packaging.
The whiskey inside is no afterthought. Bottled at 58.7% ABV, a number chosen to honour Bruce McLaren, whose first race car was the number 58 Austin 7 Ulster, it uses Jack Daniel's signature grain bill of 80% corn, 8% rye and 12% malted barley. The liquid is charcoal mellowed through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal and aged in handcrafted bespoke American white oak barrels. Master Distiller Chris Fletcher promises sweet maple, fruit and toasted oak on the nose, followed by sweet caramel, chocolate, pipe tobacco and baking spice on the palate, with lingering barrel spice and brown sugar candy on the finish.
The timing is deliberate. 2026 marks McLaren's 1000th Formula 1 Grand Prix and the 160th anniversary of the Jack Daniel Distillery, making the Halo MK1 a celebration of two institutions that have spent decades perfecting their respective crafts. Priced at £500, it goes on general sale from 1 July in highly limited quantities worldwide.
Jack Daniel's Global Managing Director Mark Bacon called it "a remarkable bottle that is destined to become a collector's item for Formula 1 fans and whiskey drinkers alike." McLaren Racing CMO Louise McEwen added that the release "brings together McLaren's racing DNA and Jack Daniel's whiskey-making tradition in a way that feels both authentic and truly collectable." For a category saturated with motorsport tie-ins, the Halo MK1 raises the bar by making the collaboration physical rather than merely nominal.
