The fighting game franchise is heading back to theatres, and the second official trailer for Mortal Kombat II confirms it was worth the wait.
Warner Bros. dropped "Official Trailer II" this week, giving a fuller picture of what director Simon McQuoid has been building since the 2021 reboot. The biggest addition to the cast is Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, bringing star power and the kind of charisma the character demands.
Returning cast members include Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson and Ludi Lin. The trailer leans heavily into the franchise's signature brutality while expanding the mythology beyond the first film's tournament structure.
Originally scheduled for 2025, the sequel was delayed to allow for additional post-production work. The new release date is May 6th internationally and May 8th across North America.
The first film grossed over 4 million worldwide against a 5 million budget, proving there is a genuine appetite for faithful video game adaptations done well. With a bigger cast, bigger set pieces and the benefit of an established audience, Mortal Kombat II has the ingredients to be one of the summer's biggest action films.
