Porsche and Pixar have a history of turning animation into asphalt. In 2022, the Sally Special, a one-off 911 inspired by Sally Carrera from Cars, sold at auction for $3.6 million. Now, ahead of Toy Story 5 hitting cinemas on 19 June, they have gone further: three one-off Porsche 911s, each modelled on a beloved character, each crammed with more detail than most Sonderwunsch projects dare to attempt.
The trio debuted on the red carpet at the Toy Story 5 world premiere in Los Angeles on 9 June, and the story they tell, through paint, material and sheer mechanical ambition, is worth examining in detail.
Buzz Lightyear: 911 GT3 RS with Weissach Package
Buzz gets the most overtly dramatic car of the three. A 911 GT3 RS fitted with the Weissach Package, one of the final examples of the current model year, painted white with hand-applied accents in Green Yellow and Lizard Green across the front lid, fascias, roof and fenders. The rear wing, already imposing on a standard GT3 RS, has been styled to evoke Buzz’s pop-out wings, with a white and Fire Red striped pattern on the lower element and Light Sport Grey struts. Bespoke Goodyear tyres carry custom-moulded Lightyear sidewall lettering, a reference that only works because Goodyear played along with the gag. The magnesium wheels are painted white with Space Ranger logos on the centre caps, designed by Pixar production designer Bob Pauley.
Inside, Pebble Grey leather and Arctic Grey Race-Tex form the base, with Lizard Green stitching, seatbelts and door loops. Violeta leather accents on the upper seats add depth, and a Buzz Lightyear silhouette motif sits on the dashboard. The illuminated carbon door sills read, inevitably, "To Infinity and Beyond."
Woody: 911 Carrera T in Dark Sea Blue
Woody’s car is the most technically fascinating of the three. The 911 Carrera T wears a custom Dark Sea Blue finish, but the Sonderwunsch team did something they had never done before: they pressed real denim fabric into the wet paint to create a textured, worn effect that mimics the fade and crease of a well-loved pair of jeans. The result is a paint surface that genuinely looks like fabric under certain light, a technique that required mixing Golf Blue, Dark Sea Blue and white before the denim impression was applied. Coffee Black accents on the fascia and rocker panels, Aurum Gold on the front spoiler lip, and Fire Red door graphics bearing Woody’s name round out the exterior.
Inside, Speed Yellow leather inserts feature a stitched red checkered pattern, directly referencing Woody’s iconic shirt. Brown vintage leather, a first for Porsche, has been used throughout the cabin to evoke the wear and patina of a toy that has been loved for years. The denim-themed seat centres and cowhide floor mats appear here too, and the illuminated door sills greet you with Woody’s catchphrase: "Ride Like the Wind!" There is even a Pixar ball shifter, a detail so perfectly judged it might be the best Easter egg on any of the three cars.
Jessie: 911 Targa 4 GTS in Jessie White Metallic
Jessie’s 911 Targa 4 GTS is the most colourful of the three, and arguably the most charming. A new colour, Jessie White Metallic, was developed specifically for this car, featuring a pearl overlay that references the pearl buttons on Jessie’s western shirt. The lower bodywork is painted 944 Cobalt Blue Metallic to represent her jeans, while the upper front lid and rear decklid carry Atacama Yellow accents with GTS Red pinstriping. A red Targa top mimics Jessie’s hat with light beige piping, and the traditional Targa bar script has been replaced with her name. A horse emblem on the front left fender nods to Bullseye, her trusted steed, while simultaneously echoing the Mobil Pegasus decal found on vintage Porsches.
The interior layers Dark Night Blue leather with Bordeaux Red and Pebble Grey stitching. Denim-look fabric on the seat centres matches the Woody car, while the floor mats carry a black and white cowhide pattern. The door sills illuminate with Jessie’s trademark "YEE HAW!" in character-appropriate enthusiasm.
A charity initiative with real purpose
All three cars will be sold together as part of a charitable initiative supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, the American Red Cross and the Starlight Children’s Foundation. The causes align neatly with the spirit of the franchise: Toy Story has always been about friendship, loyalty and looking out for each other, and the decision to channel the proceeds towards children’s charities gives the project an emotional heft that pure novelty could never achieve on its own.
Three one-off 911s. Three characters. Hundreds of hours of hand-finished paintwork. A charitable purpose that turns a marketing exercise into something more generous. Porsche and Pixar have done this properly.
