The Maldives does not lack for luxury resorts. But Six Senses has consistently managed to stand apart in a crowded market by prioritising sustainability, wellness, and genuine connection to place. Its new property in the Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, doubles down on that approach.
Six Senses Kanuhuraa will occupy a private island in the southern part of the atoll, roughly a 35-minute seaplane transfer from Male. The resort comprises 78 villas, split between beachfront and overwater configurations. The largest, a two-bedroom overwater retreat, spans 450 square metres and includes a private infinity pool, outdoor shower, and direct lagoon access via a swim platform.
Design draws on traditional Maldivian architecture, with thatched roofing and open-air living spaces, while incorporating modern sustainable building practices. The resort will operate entirely on solar energy supplemented by battery storage, with a target of zero single-use plastics from opening day.

A marine research centre, operated in partnership with the Maldives Marine Research Institute, will be open to guests and will focus on coral reef restoration and manta ray conservation. The atoll is home to the largest known population of reef manta rays, and the resort position offers direct access to Hanifaru Bay, the famous feeding and mating ground.
The wellness offering includes a Six Senses Spa with Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners, an integrated wellness screening programme, and a sleep centre designed in collaboration with the brand global sleep ambassador.
Rates have not been announced, but based on comparable Six Senses properties, expect nightly rates starting around 2,000 dollars for a beach villa. Reservations open in June 2026, with the first guests arriving in November.
