Vacheron Constantin has unveiled a striking new iteration of its Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, this time dressed in an azure blue dial and an 18-karat white gold case. Limited to just 200 pieces, the reference 4300V/220G-H119 celebrates three decades of the Overseas collection, which first appeared in 1996 as the successor to the legendary 222 from 1977.
Thirty Years of the Overseas
The Overseas story began with the 222, designed by Jorg Hysek and released in 1977 as Vacheron Constantin's answer to the emerging luxury sports watch category. Nearly two decades later, the first-generation Overseas arrived, retaining the tonneau-shaped case but with a more aggressively notched bezel evoking the Maltese cross. Now in its third generation since the comprehensive redesign of 2016, the collection has matured into one of the most respected integrated-bracelet platforms in haute horlogerie.
This anniversary edition arrives at a moment when Vacheron Constantin is widely regarded as the quiet powerhouse of the Holy Trinity. While Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe command louder headlines, Vacheron has consistently released watch after watch that collectors genuinely want to wear. The Azure Dial
The defining feature of this limited edition is the new lacquered azure dial, which differs from the blue introduced with the 2016 Overseas relaunch. Lighter and less saturated, the azure centre features a sunburst finish that shifts subtly under different light conditions. Paired with the 18-karat white gold case, the combination feels both restrained and luxurious.
The dial layout is classically symmetrical. Three recessed sub-dials with snailed finishing display the calendar information: months and leap year at 12 o'clock, date at 3 o'clock, and day of the week at 9 o'clock. Leap years are highlighted in light blue, matching the peripheral minutes track with its light blue Arabic numerals. At 6 o'clock, an aperture reveals an 18-karat white gold moon waxing and waning against an azure sky scattered with engraved stars.
Ultra-Thin Engineering
At the heart of the watch is the manufacture Calibre 1120 QP/1, an ultra-thin automatic perpetual calendar movement measuring just 4.05mm in height. With 276 components and beating at 2.75Hz, the movement carries the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva certification, confirming its provenance and finishing quality. The 22-karat gold rotor, engraved with a compass rose, is visible through the sapphire caseback.
The entire watch measures 41.5mm in diameter and only 8.1mm thick, making it slimmer than comparable offerings from rivals. The perpetual calendar function accounts for leap years and varying month lengths, requiring no correction until 2100. Power reserve stands at 40 hours.
Versatility and Wearing Experience
One of the Overseas collection's signature features is its tool-free quick-change strap system. The watch comes on an integrated 18-karat white gold bracelet with satin-brushed and polished links shaped as half Maltese crosses, complete with a micro-adjustment clasp. Two additional straps are included: a white rubber strap and a denim blue rubber strap, both with an interchangeable white gold pin buckle.
The 30th-anniversary Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is available now, priced at CHF 120,000. With only 200 numbered pieces produced, it represents a fitting celebration of a collection that has quietly become one of the most compelling propositions in luxury watchmaking.
